It is an artificial freshwater lake built between 1652 and 1680 by Maharana Raj Singh. The lake is very big, covering 155 square kilometres. It is a great place for a picnic.

Badi Lake History  

Maharana Raj Singh tried to build a lake called Badi near Udaipur city between 1652 and 1680. He wanted to help the city during drought times. He named the lake Jiyan Sagar after his mother, Jan Devi. 

In 1973, when it was very dry, the lake provided water to the people of Udaipur. When the lake was full, it was very helpful to the city. People also started using the water for business reasons later on.

Best Time To Visit Badi Lake

The best time to visit Badi Lake is either early in the morning or at sunset. In the morning, the first sunlight shines on the blue water, making it look beautiful. At sunset, the sky turns colourful and reflects amazingly in the lake. 

Location Of Badi Lake 

Badi Lake is in Badi village. It is about 12km away from Udaipur city. If you want to go to the lake from Udaipur, the easiest way is to rent a taxi or tuk-tuk for a day.

Badi Lake in Udaipur is open all days of the week from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM except on special days or festivals. 

Badi Lake Entry Fee 

The Badi Lake entry fee is free. However, boating charges are as follows:

• Regular Boat Ride – Rs 30/- per head
• Motor Boat Ride –  Rs 200/- per head
• Speed Boat Ride –  Rs 400/- per head
