Badrinath Yatra is a highly sacred and spiritual pilgrimage site in Hinduism, which is located in the Garhwal Himalayas at a height of about 3,300 meters (10,827 feet).

Badrinath Yatra is a part of the Char Dham pilgrimage, along with Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. The pilgrims visit Badrinath Yatra because of the Badrinath Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and attracts thousands of devotees every year.

Badrinath Yatra is a famous tourist spot where more than 1000 pilgrims visit every year for the Char Dham Yatra. This year it has been reported by officials that more than 650 pilgrims turned away from their Badrinath Yatra due to the missing mandatory registration.

This issue happened due to the failure of authorities to manage the arrivals of pilgrims to the Badrinath Yatra and also as a plan to prevent the chaos that was noticed before in the Badrinath Yatra season.

The officer confirmed this at the Gauchar Checkpoint where almost 650 unregistered pilgrims were denied Badrinath Yatra.

Further Penalty was applied to five vehicle operators for bringing the unregistered pilgrims to the Badrinath Yatra by The Chamoli SSP Office.

The authorities have emphasized the importance of mandatory registration for Badrinath Yatra to avoid such inconveniences. They also pinpointed that the registration system is strictly working to ensure smooth and orderly pilgrimages.

The Authorities also highlighted that the mandatory registration system aims to manage the high frequency of pilgrims by preventing overcrowding and ensuring a safe Badrinath Yatra with a more comfortable experience. Where it is estimated that approximately more than 20,000 pilgrims visit the Badrinath Yatra daily.

The Uttarakhand government has extended the ban on “VIP Darshan” until May 31, 2024, due to an increasing number of pilgrims for Badrinath Yatra. Chief Secretary Radha Raturi of Uttarakhand took the decision to improve crowd management during the peak of the Badrinath Yatra season.
