Nilgiris Postponed Tourist Plans Due To Flash Floods In Tamil Nadu!

The situation today has become very challenging for people, whether they are dealing with hot sunny days or heavy rainfall. Heavy rainfall can cause big problems for communities, disrupting daily life and leading to flooding, property damage, and health risks. 

Due to heavy rains on Friday, Flash Floods In Tamil Nadu has been reported. Officials in the Nilgiris district are stating that it’s safer for tourists to wait until May 20 before travelling here. In Tenkasi district, the rain caused flash floods at Old Courtallam waterfall due to which a 17-year-old boy lost his life.

An announcement was made by the Nilgiris administration saying there will be very heavy rains from May 18 to 20 and is asking people not to visit the area during this time. District Collector M. Aruna announced that the India Meteorological Department has issued an “orange alert” for the Nilgiris district, expecting 6 to 20 cm of rain on May 18, 19, and 20.

After meeting with officials from the Revenue, Police, Fire and Rescue Services departments to discuss the preparations, the District Collector spoke to reporters. She stressed the need to keep visitors safe and suggested postponing travel plans to the area if possible.

Because of the forecasted heavy rain, all relevant departments are ready to act. It has been reported that nearly 3,500 disaster response workers have been appointed and all the necessary types of equipment required for emergency safety like earthmovers have been prepared. Apart from this, nearly 450 temporary shelters have been made up, and for all the residents it is advised to stay indoors to be safe.

A serious warning alert has been issued by the Regional Meteorological Center in Chennai that there will be heavy rainfall due to which Flash Floods In Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal for the coming five days. 

It is expected that there will be light to moderate rain in many areas, with some places getting heavy to very heavy rain, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds.

From the information given by the latest bulletin, it is also predicted that heavy rain will happen in some areas of several districts in Tamil Nadu which has prioritized Theni, Dindigul, Tenkasi, Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Pudukottai, and Ramanathapuram. 

Other districts in Tamil Nadu like Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Madurai, Sivaganga, Virudhunagar, and Thoothukudi are also expected to get heavy rain.
