India Suspends Visa Services For Canada Amidst Tension
Due to the ongoing tension between India and Canada, India has temporarily suspended visa services for Canada, stating the cause to be ‘operational reasons’.
BLS, a private agency that issues visas for Canada, on 21st September, posted on its website, “Due to operational reasons, Indian visa services have been temporarily suspended, effective September 21, 2023. Please continue to check the BLS website for updates.”
The actual reason behind India suspending visas for Canada is due to ongoing tension. The situation has escalated after the discussion of the issue of Khalistan at the G20 summit held in India.
On Monday, 18th September, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that the Canadian government was investigating the “Credible Allegations.” of potential links of Indian agents in the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Canadian Citizen who was gunned down by men wearing masks on June 18.
India has denied the allegations, stating that they are baseless. The tension between the two countries worsened as Canada expelled an Indian Diplomat, which provoked India to dismiss visa services for Canada.
However, Justin Trudeau further stated that Canada had no intention to provoke India but only to address the matter so that the Indian government would look into it seriously and not escalate the matter further.
