Chariots Construction Of Jagannath Puri Yatra 2024
The Jagannath Rath Yatra is a grand festival that requires months of careful planning and preparation. It all starts with skilled craftsmen building three massive chariots, one each for Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra. These chariots are made new every year using special woods, with Lord Jagannath’s chariot being the largest.
A Unique Ritual Of Jagannath Puri Yatra 2024
About two weeks before the Jagannath Puri Yatra start date, important rituals begin. The most notable is the Snana Yatra, where the deities are bathed with water from 108 pots. After this, the gods are believed to fall ill and are kept in isolation for a period called “Anasara”.
During this period, the atmosphere of Puri comes alive with devotional songs and the energy of the crowd as the deities are brought out of the Jagannath Temple and placed on their respective chariots.
Grand Procession
The Jagannath Rath Yatra 2024 is a grand procession that moves from the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple, covering about 3 kilometres. This short distance becomes a long journey, often taking many hours to complete. The slow pace is due to the huge crowds and the tradition of devotees pulling the chariots with ropes.
Many people believe that it will wash away their sins and help them reach salvation. Despite the spiritual atmosphere, safety is a top priority. Hence, the organisers put lots of security measures in place to protect everyone involved in this massive event.
