Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Resumes: Uttarakhand Reopens Gateway For Pilgrims

 In news

Starting September 15, devotees will have a rare opportunity to view the sacred Kailash peak from the old Lipulekh pass in Uttarakhand as Kailash Mansarovar Yatra resumes. The pass, located at 18,300 feet in the Pithoragarh district, has been closed since 2019 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Pithoragarh’s District Tourism Officer, Kirti Chandra Arya, announced that pilgrims can now travel by vehicle from Dharchula to Lipulekh. From there, a short 800-metre trek leads to a vantage point offering clear views of Kailash Peak in Tibet.

While the pass into China remains closed, this reopening allows devotees to view both Kailash Peak and Om Parvat from within Indian borders. The route’s significance was highlighted by a recent visit from Minister Satpal Maharaj and his wife Amrita Rawat on June 22 who expressed the joy that Kailash Mansarovar Yatra resumes.

Lipulekh Pass is a high mountain path in the Himalayas. It links India’s Uttarakhand state to Tibet and Nepal. People have used it for a long time to trade and make religious trips. It is an important way to get to Kailash Mansarovar, a holy place. The pass has beautiful views but is hard to walk on because the ground is rough.

The Uttarakhand Tourism Department is preparing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure safe access for tourists as Kailash Mansarovar Yatra resumes. District Magistrate Reena Joshi confirmed that meticulous planning is underway to provide a seamless experience for visitors.

This initiative not only boosts tourism but also reconnects devotees with their spiritual heritage as Kailash Mansarovar Yatra resumes. The reopening marks an important milestone for Uttarakhand tourism, offering stunning Himalayan views and a chance for spiritual connection.

This reopening will bring more visitors to the area and help local businesses. Many people are looking forward to the day when Kailash Mansarovar Yatra resumes completely, allowing for the full spiritual journey.
