This decision was announced by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, following a Cabinet meeting at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, May 15, 2024.

The Prime Minister of the UAE stressed how important it is for the country to protect the environment. He said that the economy and the environment are connected, so they need to take care of both. The UAE is determined to use the latest technology and improve education to make sure they do a good job of looking after the environment.

During the UAE’s sustainability year (2023–2024), they introduced the Blue Visa, which fits well with their goals of protecting the environment and using resources wisely. Here’s what you should know about it.

What Is UAE’s 10 Year Blue Residence Visa?

The UAE started a program called the ‘Blue Residency’ for people who work hard to protect the environment. It gives them a special visa that lasts for 10 years. This program is meant to support efforts to take care of the environment, both in the UAE and around the world.

Following the President’s decision to continue the 2023 Year of Sustainability, this effort focuses on promoting sustainability both in and outside the UAE. By supporting people who work hard to protect the environment, the UAE is continuing its efforts to be more environmentally friendly in the future.

Who Is Eligible?

The Blue Visa is a special permit for people who have done impressive work in different environmental areas like protecting oceans, forests, and air quality, as well as using sustainable technology and promoting recycling.

How Do You Apply?

Eligible individuals are encouraged to apply for the Blue Visa through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP), and relevant authorities may also nominate them for consideration. The UAE’s 10 year blue residence visa offers recipients long-term residency in the UAE, opportunities for collaboration on environmental projects, access to funding and resources, and acknowledgement for their contributions to environmental protection.
