Wi-Fi In The Air Mechanism
The secret behind wifi in flights above 30,000 feet is revealed. Airlines use two main methods to keep us connected above the clouds.
1. Air-To-Ground Method
This method works like how our smartphone gets online but on a much bigger scale. Special towers on the ground beam internet connect straight up to the planes flying overhead.
2. Satellite Method
For those long flights over oceans, satellite Wi-Fi comes to the rescue. Flights with special antennas catch signals from satellites. This is a new technology.
Industry experts predict that almost all airlines will soon provide WiFi in flights. Currently, some of the airlines offering onboard Wi-Fi include JetBlue, Norwegian Air, Philippine Airlines, Air New Zealand, China Eastern Airlines, United Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, and Lufthansa.
