What is the best time to visit Phuentsholing?

Phuentsholing in Bhutan is a beautiful town sharing the border which you can visit throughout the year around. The best time to visit Bhutan – Phuentsholing from April to June as it is the spring season, during this time the weather will be pleasant and you can see different types of flowers around and the temperature ranges from 25 to 35 degrees Celsius.

During the autumn season in Bhutan, Phuentsholing is also the best to explore the place and get the best. September to November (autumn) is also a great time to visit, as the winds are moderate and the weather is neither too hot nor cold.

How To Reach Phuentsholing?

Reaching Phuentsholing is relatively convenient, especially for travelers coming from India. The town is well-connected by road, train, and air.

By Bus:

Phuentsholing Bhutan can be accessed from Kolkata and Siliguri. There are two routes available for travel. One goes via Sevak Bridge, and the other goes through Alipurduar and Hasimara. If you are prone to car sickness, it is suggested to take the second route. This road is a part of the main Siliguri to Guwahati Highway and is in better condition than the first route

From Kolkata, the Bhutan Government operates a direct bus service to Phuentsholing. Buses depart from Esplanade Bus Station at 7 PM on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. The journey takes around 18 to 25 hours depending on the road condition.

From Siliguri, Bhutan Government buses depart twice daily at 7:30 AM and 1:30 PM. Non-Indians must receive an exit stamp at the Indian immigration office before entering Bhutan. When disembarking in Jaigaon, Once you reach Jaigaon you should move your luggage from the roof to inside the bus and request the driver to let you off at the Indian immigration office which is at a short distance.

By train:

The nearest railway station to Phuentsholing is at Hasimara, which is roughly a 30-minute bus ride. However, train services to this station are very limited.

New Jalpaiguri Station in Siliguri is a four-hour journey, but offers a greater number of services and is the most favored option for travelers arriving in Bhutan by train.

New Alipurduar’ (NOQ) railway station is a better option than New Jalpaiguri if you want to reduce your road journey to Jaigaon. From here, Jaigaon is only about 60 km away and can be covered in about 1 hour and 15 minutes by a direct taxi. 

Alternatively, bus services from New Alipurduar town to Jaigaon are also available. Most of the trains going to Guwahati stop at this railway station. It is also the shorter route for those coming from Guwahati or other northeastern states of India.

By air:

For those flying in, Bagdogra Airport is the nearest airport, from where you can hire a taxi or take a bus to Phuentsholing.
