Good News: Now Women In Karnataka Will Travel Free In State Run Buses

On 30th May, the transport minister of Karnataka, Ramalingam Reddy has announced that all state run busses will be free of cost for women from 1st June. 

As per reports from transport officials, over 40 lakh women travel everyday in buses and to make travelling convenient for them, they will not be entitled to pay for bus tickets anymore. 

An environmental group Greenpeace has written to the Chief Minister that in order to make travelling more convenient and safe for women, there should be an increase in the number of BMTC Buses to 14000 and and also to establish 11 more lanes for buses in Bengaluru.

The minister stated that, “I want to make it clear that all women can now travel for free in government buses.”
