History of INS Khukri Memorial

The INS Khukri Memorial in Diu pays homage to the officers and sailors of the Indian Navy who lost their lives in the Indo-Pak War of 1971. This warship was sunk by a torpedo attack, resulting in the tragic loss of many lives. INS Khukri was a frigate of the Indian Navy. It sank 40 nautical miles off the coast of Diu because of the three torpedo shout by a Pakistan submarine on 9/12/1971 and taken down with her crew of 18 Officers and 176 Sailors. 

The captain of the ship Mahendra Nath Mulla was commanding the ship at the time and because of Captain Mulla and his brave crew’s heroic act exemplifies the unwavering spirit and indomitable courage that embodies the proud traditions of the Indian Navy.
