India’s First International Cruise From Chennai To Sri Lanka To Promote Cruise Tourism

If you have always wanted to go on an international cruise after watching the movie Titanic, then we have good news. 

India’s first international cruise from Chennai to Sri Lanka was waived off from Chennai Port on 5th June 2023. 

The MV Express is carrying 750 passengers for a 5-day cruise where it will cross 3 ports. 

Sarbananda Sonowal, the cruise minister of ports, said that the scope of cruise tourism is immense, and the launch is quite affordable and offers best-in-class services to the passengers on board. It is believed to increase cruise tourism in the country. 

Some things to know before you book your next cruise:

  • En route, the cruise will cross three ports, namely Hambantota, Trincomalee, and Kankesanturai.
  • The cruise package is available for two, three and five nights.
  • The three-night package for two people is INR 86383

The government is aiming to develop Chennai as the hub of Cruise tourism. Besides, the government plans to develop three international cruise ports and additional ferry routes through India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Thailand.
