Udaipur - City Of Lakes

My journey to Udaipur was of 2 nights and 3 days. I left for the place in the night so I reached Udaipur in the morning. I planned my trip in the month of July last year and honestly, I had to pat my back for this pick which turned out to be one of those very few excellent decisions I’ve ever made 🤦‍♀. P. S. Just kidding🤷‍♀

Breathtaking Views From The Sajjangarh Palace Overlooking Fateh Sagar

My very first visited place in the City was this panoramic Palace — Sajjangarh named after the ruler of Mewar, Maharana Sajjan Singh. Also called the Monsoon Palace because of the jaw-dropping sunsets and the views from the top during monsoons, this Palace overlooks the Fateh Sagar Lake. You could visit it in here as the sole purpose of building this palace was to gaze the monsoon clouds closely and enjoy the mesmerizing view of the city at a height of about 3000 ft above sea level.

Another visit could be given to the Nehru Garden which is basically an island garden in the mesmerizing Fateh Sagar lake. This garden has several pyramid-shaped fountains with beautiful lights. To reach to the island garden you have to take a boat ride from the Fateh Sagar road. The lush greenery by the island makes it even more enchanting.

LAKE PICHOLA – A triple sided and guided beauty

I continued the Udaipur exploration by visiting the oldest lake in the city, Lake Pichola. Located in the heart of the city, this artificial lake is ruling over the tourists’ hearts since ages because of its glided scenery and mesmerizing three-sided view. At one angle, you can witness the beautiful City Palace. At another, Mohan Mandir. Right in the middle, you can find the gigantic long standing Lake Palace.

While you’re still spotifying the golden waters, you can also witness the Jag Mandir on the Jag Island. I took a boat ride in the dawn when the entire place had been dipped in gold and the serene water made me experience another level of satisfaction and I was all calm and still, enjoying the moment I’m in and considering myself lucky enough!

Swashbuckling City Palace

My Udaipur tour was definitely incomplete till the time I’d not visited this iconic wonder. Built in A flamboyant style, the City Palace is A perfect blend of the Medieval, European and Chinese architecture. It is a marvellous medley of courtyards, terraces, pavilions, corridors, rooms and hanging gardens and is fortified entirely with granite and marble and the Aravallis.

Tripolia Pol Triple Gate Of City Palace

The main attraction of this Palace which I found it to be is the several numbers of gates known as ‘Pols’.

• Bara Pol which means the Great Gate leads you to the first courtyard and is the main entrance to the Palace complex.

• Next to it is the triple-arched gate called the ‘Tripolia’ leading one to the Torana where the Kings used to weigh themselves with gold and silver.

• Next to it is the magnificent ‘Hathi Pol’ or the Elephant Gate.Within the City Palace, you’ll get to see 11 inbuilt Palaces, Manak Mahal(Ruby Palace), Moti Mahal(Pearl Palace), Sheesh Mahal(Palace of Mirrors), Dilkush Mahal(Palace of Joy), Badal Mahal(Palace of Clouds), Zenana Mahal(Ladies Chamber) being some of them.

Jagdish Temple, within the premises of the Palace, is the biggest and the most beautiful temple in the city. The most breathtaking views of the city can be taken from the highest point of the Palace which is the famous ‘Amar Vilas’ overlooking the pristine Lake Pichola. No matter how much I appreciate the artwork and the beauty of this Palace, words still won’t be able to do justice to this Marvel. So a visit to this historic spot is a must.

Where Royalty Meets Luxury- Jag Niwas

Jag Niwas - Lake Palace

Jag Niwas, famous with the name of Lake Palace, situated on the Jag Island was something that pushed me the most to visit Udaipur. Its architecture, location, history and modern luxury are enough for anyone to behold its sight in their heads for long. Presently, it’s one of the finest wedding destinations and has been featured in several Bollywood and Hollywood movies. To reach this place, I took a boat ride from the banks of Lake Pichola which was in itself an epic experience. One can never be disappointed by this Marvellous creation, I bet!

A Brief Guide To Some More Iconic Spots

Kumbhalgarh Fort

The Kumbhalgarh Fort is a must-visit one during your visit to the city of Udaipur. One of the world heritage sites which is known for having the second longest wall of the world after ‘the Great Wall of China’. This fort is surrounded by lush green mountains from all sides.

You could also go and give a visit to the Karni Mata temple and cherish the monsoon rains over the ropeway to the hilltop where the temple is situated. You could also enjoy a walk in the Deendayal Upadhyay park by the Dudh Talai Lake.

Saheliyo Ki Badi

Udaipur has one of the finest gardens I’ve ever seen named Saheliyon ki Bari designed by the King as a gift to his Queen and her 48 maids. It is still one of the finest sights and a perfect escape from the chaos of the City.

If one has to see the artwork of Mewars, Bagore ki Haveli is a one-stop destination as it sights each and every type of traditional pieces of art. From costumes to modern art to Glasswork to copper vessels to everyday items used by the ancient rulers, this place houses everything. In the evening, it is lightened up and music and dance performances take place on a regular basis making it a must-visit tourist spot.

Vintage Car Museum Udaipur

Royalty is not just exhibited through its historic architecture examples in Udaipur but also this recently created Vintage Car Museum which houses many famous classic and vintage cars owned by the Maharanas of Mewar in the past. The fun fact is, those more than seventy years old cars are still in their working conditions. The most famous vehicle to behold in here is Rolls Royce Phantom II used by the legend James Bond in his film Octopussy,1983. Someone who’s in love with the automobiles will definitely get crazy over the sight of this museum.

In monsoon, the whole city has something to do without the heat or humidity, be it standing on the rooftop of City palace or rowing a boat amid the lit Jag Mandir or strolling in the Taj hotel by Lake Pichola Udaipur has its own way of showering love. This was my personal experience of the Tourist destinations of Udaipur but its time to explore it in your own way. You’ll fall in love with it!
